Pickled red onion recipe ingredients

A sweet and simple one to try that will add a kick to any dish!

  • 2 Red Onions
  • 250ml Natural Umber
  • 2-3 tbsp Water
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 1-2 Bay Leaves

Optionally, you could add garlic cloves, whole peppercorns, mustard seed, a sprig of thyme, and many other herbs or spices to this recipe.

 

Thinly slice the red onion. A mandoline is useful here.

Add all of the dry ingredients to a clean jar and fill with the liquid. Give the jar a slight shake or stir to ensure even coverage of the ingredients.

 

Store out of sunlight for 2-3 hours and you’re finished!

Try adding to salads, sandwiches, tacos, cold meats and more! It also makes a super tasty addition to the table during BBQ season.

Keeps in the fridge for up to 1 month.

We’ve bought it from Natural Umber for around 10 years now. Very good in helping to control Diabetes, with lots of other benefits like keeping Cholesterol levels down amongst them. I’m 83 years old.

Started using this 2 years ago for gout amazing stuff,just 2 tablespoons in large glass sparkling water before bed,also great as a salad dressing.
Quality product best so far.

Added to a glass of sparkling spring water (one or two dessert spoons) makes a great soft drink. Add a few drops of maple syrup if you like it really sweet. Better for you than cola.
